Ingredients:
- 4 slices of white bread
- 4 slices of cooked ham
- 4 slices of cheese (your choice, such as cheddar, Swiss, or mozzarella)
- 250 ml (1 cup) of milk
- 1 egg
- Black pepper to taste
- Butter for frying
Preparation:
- Prepare the Bread Rolls:
- Flatten each slice of bread with a rolling pin.
- Place a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on each flattened bread slice.
- Roll each bread slice tightly into a log shape. Optionally, you can secure them with toothpicks.
- Wrap each rolled sandwich in tin foil and refrigerate for at least an hour to help them hold their shape.
- Prepare the Dipping Mixture:
- In a bowl, whisk together the milk and the egg.
- Season the mixture with black pepper to taste.
- Coat and Fry the Rolls:
- After an hour, remove the bread rolls from the refrigerator and unwrap them.
- Dip each roll into the milk and egg mixture, ensuring they are well-coated.
- Heat a generous amount of butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Fry the rolls in the butter, turning occasionally, until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides. This should take a few minutes per side.
- Serve:
- Remove the rolls from the pan and drain on paper towels if necessary.
- Serve warm, perhaps with a side of your favorite dipping sauce or a simple salad.
Enjoy your delicious ham and cheese rolls!
