Ground Beef and Potatoes Bake


  • 4-5 potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • Olive oil for drizzling
  • Salt and black pepper to season
  • 1/2 tsp sweet paprika (divided)
  • 450 g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 9 oz crushed tomatoes
  • Optional: shredded mozzarella cheese


  1. Preheat Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare Potatoes:
    • Arrange the potato slices in a greased baking dish.
    • Drizzle with olive oil.
    • Sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and 1/4 tsp of the sweet paprika.
  3. Bake Potatoes:
    • Bake the potato slices for 20 minutes, or until they start to soften.
  4. Cook Ground Beef:
    • While the potatoes are baking, heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped onion and ground beef.
    • Season with salt, black pepper, the remaining 1/4 tsp of sweet paprika, and oregano.
    • Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are soft.
  5. Add Tomatoes:
    • Stir in the crushed tomatoes.
    • Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes.
  6. Assemble the Dish:
    • Spoon the beef mixture over the pre-baked potatoes.
    • If using, sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  7. Final Bake:
    • Bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Serve:
    • Serve hot from the oven and enjoy your meal!
